About ShowNearby
ShowNearby's mission is to empower the world to answer this simple question: “What’s nearby?“ ShowNearby is founded by Douglas Gan and Lee Changjin in November 2007. They had a startup capital of $30,000 and got its first angel round in February 2008. The angel round gave financing up to $500,000 but the duo only took up $200,000 amidst the recession. Braved thru the .com bubble in 2000, SARS in 2003 and the financial crisis in 2008-2009, Douglas Gan, at the helm of ShowNearby, lifted its company from its maiden crisis. ShowNearby was one of the early adopters of Android, by late 2009, ShowNearby on Android was the #3 application globally, beating Facebook, Twitter and the likes, trailing behind Google Maps and Google Earth. By late June 2010, ShowNearby launched its first iPhone version and within a short span of 6 months, it has a total download base of over 300,000, standing at about 1 out of every 2 iPhone users in Singapore (Singapore is believed to have 650,000 iPhones in the market). By late September 2010, ShowNearby launched its first BlackBerry version and within a short span of 1 month, it has won the BlackBerry Super Apps Challenge's Regional Selection. Closing the year 2010, ShowNearby, Singapore's leading location based service, has approx. 100 Million mobile searches conducted across all its platforms, from all the users in Singapore in 2010, making it the largest Mobile Platform in Singapore.
