Allegheny Electric Cooperative is Initiating steps to manage peak demand and support consumer members in building renewable generation systems has been Allegheny's primary focus. Since 1986, water heaters and other appliances have been using power under the Coordinated Load Management System, a demand-side program that assists in shifting electricity use from peak demand periods to off-peak hours. The voluntary initiative does this by lowering expensive demand charges, increasing system efficiency, and lowering the requirement for additional generating capacity. Modern automatic meter reading, load control, and the possibility to use smart meters and smart appliances are all being incorporated into the system update.
