Birla Institute Of Applied Sciences(BIAS) is located in the most picturesque surroundings of the lake town of Bhimtal , in the Nainital district of Uttaranchal. The campus is spread over an area of about 10 hectares of prime land amongst the Kumaun hills, thus providing a cool climate and lush green environmental surroundings, ideally conducive for academic pursuit. Affiliated to the Kumaun University and Uttrancal technical University. BIAS Bhimtal is a fully residential institute that offers two courses: MCA and B.Tech (ECE & CS), both of which are approved by the AICTE (All India Council Of Technical Education). The Institute has synergistic networking with Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi , along with its extension centers at Noida, Allahabad, Jaipur, Muscat, Ras Al Khaimah and Bahrain as well as with other prestigious organizations.It finds its origins in the educational and scientific research endowments of the G. P. Birla Group of Industries. BIAS' vision is to emerge as a vibrant and socially most relevant institution in the region contributing to the development of high quality human resource and setting standards of excellence in its areas of its functioning. BIAS' mission is to empower the youth for the highest level of technical, scientific and managerial roles in public and private sectors and entrepreneurship by imparting most modern, inclusive and relevant education and inculcating in them highest order of human values. The journey began in 1969 with the establishment of a Centre of the Birla Institute of Scientific Research (BISR) founded by Mr. B. M. Birla in the developing Bhimtal industrial belt. The aim was to provide basic workshop facilities and testing grounds for entrepreneurs to set up industrial units in the region. With the backing of educational institutions like Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi and B. M. Birla Science & Technology Centre, Jaipur it was a natural progression that an academic institution was established in the same campus with renowned industrialists Mr. G. P. Birla and Mr. C. K. Birla being amongst its founding members. The institute commenced its academic programme in 1989 in computer education leading to MCA degree affiliated to Kumaun University. Expanding the horizons for professional education, the institute also started a 3-year B.Tech. course in Electronics & Communication Engineering in the session 2000-01. This course has now been converted into a 4-year program (post 10+2) with effect from the academic year 2003-04. A 17 member Board of Governors manages the Institute with Padambhusan Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Joshi, former President, Indian National Science Academy and Ex. Director General, CSIR, as its Chairman. Dr. H. C. Pande former Vice Chancellor of BIT, Mesra, Dr. M. K. Mishra, Vice Chancellor, BIT Mesra (Ranchi), and Dr. B. K. Gairola Ex. Director General, NIC are among the members of the BoG. The Institute is located near Lake Bhimtal. Also, it is in the vicinity of Lake Sat Tal, and Naukuchia Tal. BIAS is situated at 29.35 degree E longitude, 79.5667 N latitude, and 1371.6 m above Mean Sea Level in Kumaon Hills of Uttarakhand state.
