Circle Flagship is an industrial-scale, retrofitted biorefinery project that valorizes food waste streams and other biomasses into high-value bio-based chemicals and intermediates. The main products include lactic acid (LA), lactate salts (LS), and polylactic acid (PLA)-based products. The project upgrades an existing biogas plant in Amsterdam to demonstrate a more sustainable and carbon-efficient process for producing these bio-based chemicals. The produced compounds have applications in cosmetics, cleaning products, and other bio-based materials, following a Safe-and Sustainable-by-Design approach.
