About College of the Mainland
While the name is reminiscent of tropical waters and palm trees, College of the Mainland is actually a community college in Texas City, Texas. COM not only has relatively low tuition rates, but also has a slew of financial aid options for students who qualify. In order to determine if they qualify, students should fill out their FAFSA after applying. The admissions process is slightly different from most community colleges. COM requires that all students under 30 must submit proof of immunization against meningococcal meningitis. Meningitis vaccination (MV) requirements not only pertain to future students, but to returning students and transfer students. Students taking distance learning classes are not required to submit proof of their MV. COM offers approximately 70 academic degree and certificate programs. Future Petrochemical Process Technicians and Accountants can hang out together at one of the fitness classes offered by the school. Those interested in mastering the art of Tai Chi can cool off with a water aerobics class at the school’s gym. COM has a study abroad program for students looking to expand not only their academic horizons, but also their cultural perspectives. This school currently has two locations available to students: Ireland, which is a summer program, and Oaxaca, a linguistic immersion program.
