About CryoVascular Systems
CryoVascular Systems develops, manufactures, and markets a technology to provide precise cooling for the diseased arteries during balloon angioplasty. CryoVascular Systems has developed a proprietary technology known as the PolarCath Peripheral Dilatation System, which utilizes liquid nitrous oxide to provide precise cooling of the diseased coronary artery during balloon angioplasty. This procedure is known as CryoPlasty. The PolarCath system is designed to revascularize the artery and reduce the post-procedure rate of restenosis. Restenosis often requires patients to have a repeat angioplasty procedure or surgery. The repeat procedure rate for patients treated with current balloon angioplasty and stent technology of the femoral-popliteal arteries is reported to be as high as 30-40 percent. CryoVascular Systems was incorporated in 1997 and is based in Los Gatos, California. As of April 18, 2005, it was acquired by Boston Scientific Corporation.
