FREE is a project led by criminal-legal system-impacted women in Wisconsin, focusing on the gender-specific experiences and collateral consequences of interacting with the criminal legal system. The group centers the voices of directly impacted women and girls, organizing for visionary alternatives to current systems of injustice and incarceration. With women’s incarceration rates rising at twice the rate of men’s, FREE addresses the unique trauma, abuse, and challenges faced by women and girls under supervision or in state and local facilities
