About Freedom One Life
Freedom One Life inspire and empower people living with a physical disability. Enabling people around the world to expect and demand the same standard of living and mobility that a non-disabled person takes for granted. The first product is a game changing next generation power wheelchair. The founder, Alex Papanikolaou, created Freedom One Life due to the limitations of the stagnant powerchair market which he experienced first-hand. Our vision is to deliver radical change to the market, offering a revolutionary power wheelchair to improve independence and stretch the boundaries of powerchair users. We have done this in 4 key ways: Performance - we have created the biggest wheelchair battery in the world, delivering a world beating 40 kilometre range in real world conditions on a single charge. Our high efficiency motors deliver triple the power of comparable chairs on the market, and we also have a compact design, ideal for precise manoeuvrability. Reliability and Safety - Our battery has five years of charge cycles, we use premium grade materials to improve strength and stability, and cables and components are completely enclosed, protecting them from damage. Comfort and Convenience - Adjustable ergonomic seating and tilt and lift functions for flexible positioning. We are the only chair in the world to have an on board, integrated charger. We also use low pressure, extra wide rear tyres for a smoother ride. Transportability - 30% lighter than comparable powerchairs on the market, crash tested and with accessible lift points for transit. do. The market is currently served by outmoded 20th century technology which depends on lead acid batteries and brushed motors. The current powered chairs available are often prone to breaking down and provide limited range when used every day. The result of this is that people are forced to live their lives constrained by the technology available rather than living the life they chose. The lack of reliability means people restrict their activity and are more isolated from society than they need to be. The underlying technology used by the incumbent powerchair manufacturers has not changed in 25 years. We started powerchair design from scratch, and looked at every single component in minute detail, from the battery, to the chassis, to the wheels to the nuts and bolts used. We wanted to use the best technology and construction available. We started with the battery, range anxiety is one of the biggest issues for powerchair users, we created the biggest lithium battery we could fit into our design. We then paired this with high power, high efficiency brushless motors. A wheelchair control system was not available for lithium batteries and brushless motors, we created this along with a sophisticated control system. We also completely rethought wheelchair mechanical design. Power wheelchairs tend to be assembled with highly complex frames and brackets that are bulky, come loose over time and break easily. They also tend to have almost all components completely exposed, meaning that parts are easily damaged and cables are easily trapped. We designed a simple and highly durable one-piece aluminium chassis, we also completely enclose components and cables inside colourful body panels, protecting them from damage.
