Lawson State Community College in Bessemer, Alabama recently ranked high among two-year colleges, particularly for excellence in teaching and student satisfaction. Lawson State offers two-year degrees and certificates in technical, business and health careers as well as the liberal arts and sciences. Lawson state has adult and continuing education options as well. Being ranked by Washington Monthly as one of “America’s 50 best community colleges” was quite an impressive accolade, especially considering the vast number of community colleges in the U.S. Lawson State continues to provide for its students by developing and implementing new facilities and programs. This includes the newly-built residence halls, which allow students to live on campus. Some of the student support services offered at Lawson State include career placement services, student health services, counseling, academic advising and TRIO programs for disadvantaged students. Financial aid is available to eligible students and includes scholarships, loans and grants.
