OpenAvenue's mission is to enable an emerging "Open Industry" by bringing together the worldwide inventory of code, knowledge and talent to support community-based, open-source development projects. OpenAvenue builds a dynamic community around software content solicited from open-source authors, shareware developers, freeware contributors, independent software vendors (ISVs) and IT consulting organizations that own applications that can benefit from community participation. Around this core of freely-hosted content, our portal provides an infrastructure of productivity tools and services to facilitate a collaborative effort among a worldwide community of developers, who come to OpenAvenue looking for project participation and knowledge sharing. "Open Source" describes software that is developed by a community of programmers using freely distributed, nonproprietary source code. Open source promotes software reliability and quality by supporting independent peer review and rapid evolution of source code.
