All government agencies in New Jersey are subject to the rules described in the New Jersey Open Public Records Act, or OPRA. OPRA requires that all documents, meeting minutes, memos and records that are created by a public agency must be given to anyone in the public that asks for them. For most local governments, being OPRA-compliant is a tedious, time-consuming, manual process that requires the filing of forms, searching for information, duplication costs, expenses for the local government, and angry constituents forced to wait for information.
