About Social Entrepreneurship and Equity Development
Social Entrepreneurship and Equity Development - SEED - was founded in 2009 by Faraz Khan and Khusro Ansari. These characteristics form the core of this organisation and are evident from the manner it operates. SEED truly believes in the potential of social entrepreneurship and serves as a platform for the development and the facilitation of entrepreneurship in Pakistan. It also holds the unique status of being a repository of knowledge creating a sphere of a diverse range of information – be it academic, theoretical, practical and/or experiential – for visionaries and entrepreneurs, particularly those with a social mandate. Equity development is an important part of SEED’s agenda. This approach rests on two principles: the first principle emphasises on creating and providing equal opportunities for people in the community to help them develop and enhance their skills and talents; while the second principle strongly reflects the fact that SEED is averse to an environment of extreme poverty. It believes in contributing to the development of a viable business idea so that the road from opportunity to outcome has lesser hurdles. The modus operandi is as forth: a prospective entrepreneur presents a business idea to SEED team, based on its potential in two areas i.e. business viability and social impact. SEED invests in that idea, thus creating an environment conducive for transforming ideas into reality. The company strongly believes in the potential of partnerships. It has revolutionized collaborations with the public and private sector by ensuring constant interaction with relevant stakeholders. These partnerships are not isolated processes for commercial purposes; rather the emphasis is on adding value to the community as a result of the collaboration. All of SEED’s companies and initiatives revolve around one central idea – create a social impact. SEED has a very diverse portfolio of businesses that focus on building foreign trade relations, developing socially responsible media strategies, promoting emerging Pakistani artists abroad, book publishing and socio-economic development. Through its initiatives it also focuses on heritage preservation and the development of grass-root level entrepreneurs. With a core team of experienced entrepreneurs, SEED aspires to bring dynamism to the field of entrepreneurship, and serves as a fulcrum for all relevant stakeholders engaged in the process of entrepreneurial endeavour. The company’s global presence, strongly established in the UK, allows it to transfer expertise and share knowledge, bridging gaps between entrepreneurs all across the globe. This allows facilitation of experiential learning. It is through constant and holistic research, that they are able to devise solutions for the entire gamut of entrepreneurs that constitute the Entrepreneurial Eco-System. SEED believes that for every problem, there are at least half a dozen solutions, and its team has the insight, the applicative acumen and discerning skills to provide these solutions, and to differentiate the best from the rest. Their core service is to build and expand businesses – regardless of their existing condition.
