About Western New Mexico University
While its primary location is in Silver City, New Mexico, Western New Mexico University (WNMU) is dedicated to providing traditional and innovative academics to students throughout the state. WNMU features more than 50 degrees at the undergraduate and graduate level and more than two dozen certificate and associate’s programs. Programs of study include professional specializations like Accounting, Education, Social Work and Zoology and traditional academic areas in the Humanities and the Natural and Social Sciences. Probably the most exciting aspect of WNMU’s curriculum is its set of unique majors. Offered through the Expressive Arts division, these majors encompass almost every area of Performing and Fine Art imaginable, including Movement, Fiber Arts, Bronze Casting and New Media as well as traditional Studio Art and Theatre Performance options. In its efforts to reach students throughout the state, WNMU has more than half a dozen learning centers that allow students in rural areas to take classes or earn a degree from WNMU. Included in such outreach efforts are its online courses and services. Services on the Silver City campus include tutoring, academic advising, career advisement and financial aid counseling. Students interested in applying to WNMU will need to submit an application and proof of a high school diploma or GED. SAT or ACT scores will be used for academic placement, but are not required. If a student has not taken the SAT or ACT, he or she will need to take a school placement test.
