Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) is a high-ranking institution in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with a history of creating opportunities for its students. From its beginnings, WSSU created these opportunities by being the first southern university to offer teacher education programs to African-Americans. WSSU awards financial aid through need-based grants, federal loans and federal work-study awards to those who qualify. Applicants to all of these financial aid programs must complete a FAFSA.
